The Dolphin

This is a terrific tune that doesn’t get played enough. The only recordings I know are by Bill Evans and Stan Getz. If anyone knows of other recordings, let me know. In my opinion, this tune is all about expressing joy. I can’t play it without feeling it. This was a quickie GarageBand concoction that I put together on a Sunday night. Speed was the priority, not perfection. I only did two takes, took the better of the two, mistakes and all. The feeling comes through though. I enjoyed the heck out of doing this song.

How nice is to find one of Luiz Eça’s songs so nicely played here on youtube.
Have you ever heard the other ones, the one that Bill Evans didn’t record, Imagem, for example, or Reflexos?

The only problems I have with watching all your posts 7note are (a) the sheer pleasure I get from your playing is occasionally offset by glumness that my own playing is so poor in comparison. (b) I stay up way too late re-visiting them all. LOL!!

Louis Stewart has a version for guitar on his String-Time, and I am sure John McLaughlin recorded a rather horrible version some time ago. There is also a version on a record called ‘Here’ but I do not know who it is by.

Nice job. There is also the original recording by the tune’s composer, Luis Eca, with The Tamba4, if you can find it. My bass player had the LP 35+ years ago, which was where I learned it. I’ve been looking for the albumn for years. If you should happen to find it, please let me know. Thanks.

I didn’t see it at first but if you look very closely you can spot the Steinway crest amongst the reflection of the keys.

Can you throw us a tip on how you practiced syn’d two hand improvisation? Like around ~2:25.
I also still have trouble brining variation into my left hand when accompanying my solo/main theme with right. I always just pulse chords but I can never give it the pro touch like you’re doing =(.
Any advice for that,sir?
