Would it be better to fish for carp in winter or spin for pike?

Posted on Dec 31, 2008 under pike fish | 3 Comments

hanvt been catching carp over the last few weeks is this because of winter? would you advise to fish for pike? do they feed much in winter?

Pike are extremely active in the winter, most big Pike are caught in extreme temps, they love the cold water. You are much more likely to catch a trophy pike in the dead of winter, or at ice out, as opposed to during the summer. I fish for them through the ice in Ma. and NH. every winter and have really good luck setting traps with shiners. Plus, A long day out on the ice with an ample supply of your favorite brandy is nothing short of a great day, and usually a great time to just kick back and watch your traps while you catch up with all the locals around.

do they eat salmon or trout?

Pike eat live fish- any size, shape, or species. They have been a huge problem when introduced into trout lakes. Pike also eat snakes, amphibians, birds, and small mammals. Think of them kind of like a freshwater barracuda- all teeth and appetite.

What fish market in Seattle is the best and ships out of state?

I'm buying a gift certificate for my brother who lives in Texas and loves fresh fish. I live in Seattle, and I know Pike Place Fish is great, but their prices seem high. Which market has the best fish and best prices?

City Fish - http://www.cityfish.com/1-800-334-2669/index.html Understand, though, that fresh fish is very expensive to ship. It has to be packed in ice and can only be shipped express overnight or it will spoil.

If he likes smoked salmon http://www.madeinwashington.com has nice gift baskets with smoked salmon, chowders, cheeses. I regularly send these to my parents in Florida.
